Tituss Burgess slams Andy Cohen over Eddie Murphy question

It looks like Tituss Burgess did not have as much fun as other guests do on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.”

The “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” star, 40, appeared on Cohen’s show alongside Laverne Cox on Sunday, and afterward called it a “display of ratchet behavior by a well-connected man having blatant disregard for one of his guests.”

Burgess seemed displeased when Cohen asked him about working with Eddie Murphy on the upcoming film “Dolemite Is My Name.”

“Did you get to chat with him at all? He was very problematic for the gays at one point when I was coming up,” Cohen asked.

Cohen famously wrote in his memoir “Most Talkative” that he was traumatized in high school after attending one of Murphy’s standup shows with his friends where “every other word out of [Murphy’s] mouth” was a gay slur. Cohen had not publicly addressed his sexuality with his friends at the time.

Burgess quickly responded, “He wasn’t problematic for Tituss, and we had a wonderful time … Any troubles he may have had with gay people I guess are gone because he loved me.”

The Emmy nominee then shook his finger and seemed to mutter something to someone off-camera. When Cohen noticed, he asked, “What are you saying, Tituss?” to which Burgess responded, “Keep going, girl. Do your show.”

Twitter users were quick to notice Burgess’ dismay, with one viewer tweeting, “Wow, is it me or is Tituss Burgess not feeling Andy? I don’t think Andy did anything wrong but maybe I missed something,” while another quipped, “Teresa [Giudice], Kelly Dodd and Ramona Singer are the only housewives brave enough to tell Andy ‘Keep going girl, do your show’ like Tituss Burgess.”

Following the show, Burgess wrote in an Instagram comment, “He should remember his talk show isn’t an episode of the ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta!’ It’s a place where artists come to talk about art and have a little fun. NOT a place to rehash old rumors or bring a star negative press.”

He then added, “Being friends with other talented celebrities doesn’t make you talented it makes you friends with other famous celebrities! He should rip a page from Anderson Cooper and learn how to do his job.”

Reps for Burgess and Cohen could not immediately be reached.
