La La Anthony sticks up for estranged husband Carmelo

Love and basketball may not be in the cards for La La and Carmelo Anthony, but La La is still sticking up for her estranged husband’s skills on the court.

When asked by TMZ about Carmelo, 35, not being invited to join Team USA in the upcoming FIBA World Cup, La La, 36, responded, “Who was a better Team USA player than he was? Nobody.”

“Out of respect, they should [call him],” she said at LAX on Monday morning.

La La added, “I’m not saying he wants to play or he doesn’t want to play.”

She has a point. Per TMZ, Melo’s Team USA credentials are impressive: He is “the only Team USA basketball player to compete in 4 different Olympics, … [and] the first Team USA player to win 3 gold medals.” He’s also ranked first in games played (31), points scored (336), rebounds (125), and free throws made (53), among other distinctions. It is unclear as to whether Team USA has been in contact with Anthony.

Off the court, things have been rocky for the pair since the baller was spotted with another woman on a yacht in June. Though they have been seen together since, though People reported earlier this month that the pair “have been living apart for quite some time.” The former couple shares 12-year-old son Kiyan.
