Jennifer Lopez’s cake for Alex Rodriguez eaten by sports writers instead

Birthday month continues for Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez.

On Sunday, the superstar singer, who turned the big 5-0 last week, surprised Rodriguez in the ESPN booth during the Yankees and Red Sox game in Boston, one day after the former shortstop turned 44. Joined by Rodriguez’s daughters, Ella and Natasha, Lopez presented the birthday boy with a cake.

“The whole summer has been one large cake,” Rodriguez told colleagues Jessica Mendoza and Matt Vasgersian.

Prior to Sunday’s surprise, Lopez treated her future husband to a pinstripe-inspired birthday cake at her concert over the weekend.

Two cakes may have been too much for Rodriguez, however, as he left Lopez’s latest one behind after the Yankees topped the Red Sox, 9-6, giving New York and Boston beat writers a delectable surprise instead.

“A-Rod left behind the cake presented to him by J-Lo for his Bday on the ESPN broadcast,” Boston Globe writer Julian McWilliams tweeted with a picture of the simple cake. “He did not eat a slice. All of us writers are now eating it instead.”
