Fire alarm goes off before Jake Gyllenhaal’s Broadway show

Before the start of Saturday night’s performance of “Sea Wall/A Life” starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Sturridge, a fire alarm went off.

“Strobe lights. Buzzers. The whole nine yards,” one theater pro told us.

The source said, “The audience was already in their seats and Tom was in his preshow position onstage.”

That’s when “a fire marshall’s voice came on a loudspeaker and announced, ‘There is a fire alarm in the building, but there is no need to be alarmed.’ ”

Once the production was cleared to begin, Sturridge cracked to the crowd from the stage: “If there’s no reason to be alarmed, then why is there a f - - king alarm?”
