Paul McCartney reunites with Ringo Starr to perform Beatles classics

Paul McCartney ended his tour with a little help from his friends — bringing on Ringo Starr for a rare performance by the only two surviving members of The Beatles.

“We’ve got a surprise for us, a surprise for you, a surprise for everyone,” McCartney told the already excited fans at LA’s Dodger Stadium on Saturday, the final night of his “Freshen Up Tour.”

“Ladies and gentlemen, the one and only, Ringo Starr,” he added to screams and cheers as seen in fans’ videos posted online.

The pair embraced warmly onstage, with McCartney, 77, telling his fellow Beatles legend, “All right, brother. I love you man!”

“Ready to rock?” he asked, with Starr, 79, getting behind a drumkit for electrifying versions of the Fab Four classics “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)” and “Helter Skelter.”

“Ladies and gentleman, the one and only …” McCartney said at the end of their brief reunion, telling Starr, “Hey baby, thank you.”

“No, thank you, Paul. It’s been a thrill for me and I’ve had a lovely night. It’s a great show and I love you, man,” Starr replied.

After throwing his drumsticks into the crowd, Starr walked off flashing peace signs, with McCartney telling him, “I love you — peace and love, Ringo, forever.”

McCartney also paid tribute to his two dead bandmates from The Beatles, playing George Harrison’s “Something,” and paid tribute to John Lennon with his song “Here Today.”

He another surprise guest, too, bringing out Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh, who is also Starr’s brother-in-law, for The Beatles’ “The End.”

“The best part is we didn’t have a clue what we were doing,” McCartney quipped of Walsh’s surprise appearance.

McCartney ended the night by making it clear he has no plans to retire.

“Farewell to you guys. Farewell to America. Only one thing left to be said: we’ll see you next time,” he said.
