The Swedish men who were involved in a street fight with A$AP Rocky in Stockholm are under investigation for molestation and assault, the Swedish Prosecution Authority said in press release Friday.
“The preliminary investigation continues regarding the American artist who is detained by the Stockholm District Court in Sweden on suspicion of assault in Stockholm,” the release reads. “There is also a preliminary investigation in the case concerning the aggrieved party who is suspected of molestation and assault.”
The Prosecutor’s Office told Page Six the “aggrieved party” is “not the artist but the men who allegedly followed them during the street fight.”
The Swedish Prosecution Authority would not disclose the actions that led to suspicions of molestation, but a spokesperson told us it is “not sexual” and does not pertain to “inappropriate touching.”
“Molestation (‘ofredande’ in Swedish) is a crime according to Swedish law,” the rep added. “It means roughly: A person who physically attacks someone or exposes someone to disruptive contacts or exposes someone to other ruthless actions.”
The Swedish Prosecution authority said this act may be convicted if it was “intended to violate the peace of the victim in a sensible manner, for molestation. The penalty for molestation is fines or imprisonment for a maximum of one year.”
Rocky, 30, is also under investigation, but for assault only. Both investigations are ongoing.
On July 2, Rocky posted a video on social media that showed two local men following him, his security guard, and two other friends after a physical exchange, in which the men allegedly hit the bodyguard with their headphones.
The “F—kin’ Problems” rapper wrote in the caption, “So a few drug addicts [who] are not my fans, we don’t know these guys and we didn’t want any trouble, they followed us for 4 blocks … Give me a break.”
He added in the video, “We don’t want to fight with you … We don’t want to go to jail.”
However, the Swedish Prosecution Authority detained Rocky and his team on July 3 after the men allegedly got physical with each other in a street fight.
The Prosecutor’s Office later confirmed to Page Six that the rapper was being held at the Kronoberg detention center for “flight risk,” meaning they suspected that the Americans may try to leave the country to avoid prosecution.
Rocky’s manager then alleged in an online petition that Kronoberg had “inhumane conditions” and that the rapper was restricted “access to palatable and life sustaining food as well as unsanitary conditions.”
The Swedish prison denied these claims in a statement to us, saying in part, “During the last few years, we have completed a large reconstruction where all the prison cells as well as the rest of the remand prison have been completely renovated, which make the remand prison in good condition.”
Rocky will remain at Kronoberg until at least July 19 when the prosecutor “must decide whether to file a prosecution or ask the court for a longer detention period in order to finalize the investigation,” according to the Swedish Prosecution Authority.
