‘Glee’ star Heather Morris goes back to dance roots for new project

“Glee” alum Heather Morris, who has a background in dance, is launching a dance-related podcast, “The Dance Room,” in hopes of exploring a new side of the industry with recaps of shows and interviews with choreographers.

“I was with my husband, sitting watching sports channels and ESPN and there were all these recap shows that as a wife, you just sit there and watch all the time and I was like, ‘Why is there not an avenue for dancers to recap shows?’ We have ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’ ‘World of Dance,’ ‘Dance Moms,’ just so much on the air that there’s no one recapping it or no one kinda giving it an opinion,'” Morris, 32, recently told Page Six. “We’re just basically trying to create an avenue for dancers and talk a little bit deeper … just give all the dancers and choreographers and amateur dancers and lovers of dance and fans and stuff like that like a way to get to know the talent a little bit more personally… You only know people’s work, you don’t know them personally, so I just wanted to dive into that.”

Her dream guests include Maddie Ziegler, Pamela Anderson and Paula Abdul.

She will co-host the podcast alongside dancer Ava Bernstein, and they will dive into each other’s backgrounds in an episode for the podcast. Morris will even discuss her time working as a backup dancer for Beyoncé if it should come up. She will also touch upon parenting her two boys, Elijah “Eli,” 5, and Owen, 3.

Morris also plans to interview her former “Glee” co-star Harry Shum Jr. next month for a “power couple segment” as both he and his wife, Shelby Rabara, are dancers.

“I just wanted to hear what their dynamic is,” she explained. “They have a new baby. I want to just know their home life and how that’s going and just get their personal choreo dynamic at home as dancers and all that jazz.”

And although she wasn’t part of the most recent “Glee” reunion, she does keep in touch with everyone, mostly via text.

“I’m always reaching out and saying, ‘Hey, can you give me advice on this?’ or I always like to get advice from people and so we keep a group chain and we talk pretty often.”

“The Dance Room” will launch via PodcastOne on Thursday.
