Kim Kardashian wears ‘dripping wet’ dress to the 2019 Met Gala

Kim Kardashian wore a predictably super-sexy look to the “Camp: Notes on Fashion”-themed 2019 Met Gala.

The reality star, 38, arrived on the red carpet in a custom look by Thierry Mugler that she she said took eight months to create. “Wet and dripping, that is the vibe tonight,” the reality star told E! News.

The dress itself — the designer’s first creation in 20 years — was inspired by one of Sofia Loren’s film looks, according to a tweet Kardashian shared earlier in the night. It was crafted out of taupe latex and iridescent beads, creating the illusion that the star just stepped out of the ocean.

Her husband Kanye West, on the other hand, didn’t appear to have put too much effort into his look for the big night, arriving in a $38 black zip-up Dickies canvas jacket and slacks — not such a fair cry from the bedazzled trucker jacket and ripped jeans the 41-year-old Grammy winner controversially wore to his last Met Gala in 2016.

This year’s theme is a play on Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay “Notes on ‘Camp,’” which launched the term — referring to a love of over-the-top exaggeration and the intersection of high and low art — into the mainstream.

Last year, the Kimoji CEO attended solo, wearing a vintage Versace gold metal mesh gown embellished with a single cross in keeping with 2018’s “Heavenly Bodies” exhibit.

This is the seventh Met Gala for Kardashian, who had attended the last two years without her husband in tow. Of course, the pair famously made their debut at the hyper-exclusive event in 2013 when Kim was pregnant with her first daughter, North West, wearing a floral Givenchy gown with attached gloves that instantly became the biggest meme of the night.
