Rob Lowe said he made his sex tape too early

Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

Former Brat Pack member Rob Lowe revealed on Monday’s episode of “WTF Podcast with Marc Maron” that his 1988 sex tape was too ahead of its time.

“The real f–k up was that I didn’t wait 20 years later to do it where it would have helped my career,” the 55-year-old said, alluding to a number of celebs who’ve turned sex tapes into opportunities, like Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton.

Fresh off the successful “St. Elmo’s Fire,” the then-24-year-old made headlines after he taped himself having sex with a 16-year-old girl in an Atlanta hotel room the night before supporting Michael Dukakis at the 1988 Democratic National Convention. At the time, 14 was the age of consent in the state of Georgia.

But without the help of social media or Kris Jenner, the explicit tape only slowed the actor’s career. It took time, and being mocked on “Saturday Night Live,” for his career to finally recover, as he’d go on to star in later decades “The West Wing” and “Parks and Recreation.”

Lowe has been married to Sheryl Berkoff since 1991.
