The women may have stolen the show in the Jonas Brothers’ “Sucker” music video, but Nick Jonas managed to sneak in a sartorial nod to wife Priyanka Chopra that you might have missed.
The group’s stylist Avo Yermagyan avoided typical boy band clichés by dressing the brothers in contrasting and colorful looks for the video, including a crimson velvet suit and an embellished robe by Dubai-based Filipino fashion designer Michael Cinco on Nick.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Yermagyan said that it was a subtle ode to Chopra’s Eastern roots and Jonas’ growing international fan base (in India, he is known as “Jiju,” which means “brother-in-law” or “sister’s husband”).
The clip also stars Joe’s fiancée, Sophie Turner, and Kevin’s wife, Danielle Jonas, who along with Chopra sport a variety of colorful couture looks.
Shot at Hatfield House in England, Queen Elizabeth I’s childhood home, the video features garden tea parties, dinner feasts and steamy encounters between the couples. Yermagyan had less than two days to pull together the numerous outfits for all six of the stars, but that frenetic energy was exactly what helped propel the video to more than 79 million views on YouTube, earning the Jonas Brothers their first number-one single of their career.
Despite the success of the first single from the newly reunited trio, it was Nick and Priyanka’s December wedding that really struck a chord with Yermagyan.
“Nick and Priyanka’s wedding was a dream,” he said. “I’ve tied his bow tie countless times over the years, but this day was far more meaningful. I was dressing my friend for his wedding and it was an honor.”
