Thomas Ravenel: ‘Southern Charm’ is the ‘worst mistake’ of my life

Thomas Ravenel has made a lot of mistakes in his life, but taking part in “Southern Charm” is his biggest regret.

“The worst mistake of my life was agreeing to be the star of the reality TV show ‘Southern Charm,’” he said in court documents in his ongoing custody battle with Kathryn Dennis and lawsuit against Bravo, per court documents obtained by The Blast. “It amplified my past notoriety, showcased my wealth I accumulated through decades of hard work, and made me a walking target for men and women eager to get in front of the camera. Most importantly, it caused embarrassment and pain to my parents, my sisters, and my children.”

Ravenel, 56, made the declaration as part of his plea to have his custody battle sealed. He also asked the judge presiding over his legal matter to issue a gag order to prohibit either party from discussing it. “Southern Charm” producers and Bravo would be prohibited from airing footage they have of Dennis, 26, discussing the case as well.

“I do not believe Kathryn and Bravo should profit from this litigation and from the pain and suffering it has caused me and will inevitably cause our children,” he argued. “Sealing this case will do no good if Bravo and Kathryn are allowed to discuss this litigation on TV or social media.”

Bravo previously argued that Ravenel was unlawfully trying to stomp on their First Amendment right to air the footage, to which he retorted: “Bravo IS NOT a news organization. It does not publish truthful information pertaining to public discourse, and it has zero interest in broadcasting truthful information about the minor children, this litigation, or Ravenel on ‘Southern Charm.’”

“Bravo’s business is not the truth. It profits from the dramatization and fictionalization of crafted, non-scripted events that it airs to the public as ‘Reality TV.’”

However, he previously wanted to subpoena his co-star, Patricia Altschul, in the matter.

Ravenel first filed suit against Bravo and “Southern Charm” producers after Dennis sued for full custody of Kensie, 4, and Saint, 3. She sued after two women came forward with sexual harassment allegations against him.

For his part, Ravenel claimed that Dennis was an avid drug user who obtained her drugs through the show’s cast and crew.

Their battle is still ongoing.
