Reba McEntire turned down iconic ‘Titanic’ role

The major motion picture “Titanic” could have turned out a tad differently had Reba McEntire not been forced to relinquish her role.

It was revealed on Thursday’s “Watch What Happens Live” that the country music star was forced to turn down the role of Molly Brown in the film.

“We were on tour and I had a lot of people on the payroll,” McEntire, 63, explained. “And we had these three months already scheduled to do the movie and then they got behind on scheduling and said, ‘No we’re going to have to move it in this time.’”

The role ultimately went to Kathy Bates.

“We couldn’t reschedule all the arenas and everything,” McEntire said of the conflict.

At the time, she wasn’t aware the 1997 film would go on to become one of the most popular in history — earning 11 Oscars and three Golden Globes — grossing more than $2 billion worldwide.

McEntire confessed she was a tad upset she missed that boat, adding, “But you got to take care of your people.”
