Donald Trump Jr. and his estranged wife, Vanessa, have settled their divorce, the pair announced Friday.
“We finalized our agreement at the end of last year,” the former couple said in a joint statement. “We are incredibly lucky to have five amazing children and are committed to raising them together. Our kids and their happiness will always be our first priority.”
The Trumps, who were married for 12 years, had been negotiating custody agreements over their children, as well as financial details, ever since Vanessa filed for divorce last March.
In late July, lawyers for the estranged couple hinted that the legal split was going smoothly.
Trump Jr.’s lawyer, Norman Heller, said at the time that he expected the “whole matter” to be resolved in the “next several weeks.”
When a hearing that was scheduled for mid-November was adjourned, Heller said, “We have between us resolved most of the financial issues.”
That prompted Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Michael Katz to praise the pair for taking the high road.
“I very much would like to commend both of you for working out whatever differences you may have had regarding those issues and committing to co-parenting with each other,” Katz said at the time. “You have prioritized your children and taken steps to shield them from what could have been an invasive litigation process. Not everyone is able to do that.”
Trump Jr. and Vanessa had signed a confidentiality agreement to keep details of their divorce under wraps.
She initially filed for an “uncontested proceeding” — meaning she likely wasn’t anticipating a fight for custody or over their assets.
The president’s eldest son has since moved on with former Fox News anchor Kimberly Guilfoyle.
