Lester Holt dreams of starting a wedding band after ‘NBC Nightly News’

When Lester Holt signs off from “NBC Nightly News,” you might be able to catch him at a wedding.

“People think I’m going to write books and all of that,” Holt, 59, said on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” “I want to form a wedding band.”

“I’m a bass player,” he added.

Holt, who plays electric bass and upright bass, has been spotted around the Big Apple on several occasions carrying his electric instrument. He also famously played at a small bed and breakfast in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, in 2013. It was captured by NBC’s cameras.

“I want you to think for a second. When is the last time you danced?” Holt questioned Meyers. “I’m going to bet it was at a wedding reception. A cover band at a wedding. People are having fun. You’ve got 2-year-olds, you’ve got Grandma dancing. It’s a happy moment. What a great job that would be.”

But as Holt notes, no job is perfect. “The only down is, you gotta work weekends,” he said.

Ever the comedian, Meyers quipped that listening to all of the speeches is another “downer” of the job.
