Gigi Hadid and Misty Copeland just might be movie stars in the making.
Both the supermodel and the American Ballet Theatre principal star in the 2019 Pirelli calendar, which was shot by Albert Watson and casts four women — including Julia Garner and Laetitia Casta in addition to Hadid and Copeland — as movie characters chasing big dreams.
Copeland, who plays an exotic dancer, was so convincing that the owner of the Miami strip club where her shoot took place assumed she was a local and tried to hire her, according to W.
Hadid, making her third Pirelli calendar appearance, was cast as a reclusive heiress who spends her days alone in her apartment with her “best friend and confidant,” played by designer Alexander Wang.
The 23-year-old model told press that she strongly identified with the role. “At the end of the night I’m in a hotel room by myself in a country where I don’t know anyone. And I find myself in this same situation as this character — kind of lonely and sad,” she told a group of reporters, per W.
Hadid also compared her celebrity BFF Blake Lively to the character played by Wang in her shoot, and said the “Age of Adaline” actress “really understands what I’m going through.”
Hadid added that although she’d “love to act” herself, she’s still waiting for a meatier role than the ones she’s recruited for “every week, like ‘the model’ or ‘the girlfriend.'”
“I’d rather do one or two great movies in my life than do a bunch of random cameos,” Hadid told the group.
