Friars Club settled sexual harassment suit with woman who blasted Gloria Allred

The Friars Club has settled its suit with a receptionist who claimed that she was sexually harassed while working there.

On Wednesday, we reported that Rehanna Almestica was appalled to learn that famed women’s-rights lawyer Gloria Allred had agreed to be the subject of one of the club’s legendary roasts, even though Almestica had asked Allred to represent her in the case.

After the story was published, the club told us the suit has been squared away.

According to a statement from the Friars: “A settlement in that case was reached well over a year ago and the terms were part of a confidentiality agreement.”

It went on to say, “Gloria Allred has been a distinguished member of the Friars Club for more than 30 years. She was the first female member of our California club, and played a pivotal role in opening the New York club to women in 1988,” adding that “she has remained a strong advocate for women’s rights in the club and elsewhere.”

What it didn’t mention was that Allred “played a pivotal role in opening the New York club to women” by suing the club for sexual discrimination in 1988 after it refused to let her into its dining room because women were not permitted in the building before 4 p.m. Allred’s due to be roasted on Thursday.
