Christopher Nolan made ‘relatable’ Batman for ‘The Dark Knight’

Christopher Nolan, who helmed the “Dark Knight” trilogy, said at Cannes that he was attracted to the Batman franchise because the hero’s more relatable than the average Avenger.

He said at a master class, “The thing about Bruce Wayne is he doesn’t have superpowers other than his extraordinary wealth. Really, he’s just someone who does a lot of push-ups. And in that sense, he’s very relatable … there’s a very fascinating, very primal figure at their heart.”

The director was in Cannes to screen a 70mm version of Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey.”
