Prince Harry proposed to Meghan during a ‘romantic’ night at home

Prince Harry popped the question to American actress Meghan Markle at their Kensington Palace cottage, getting down on one knee while they were “trying to roast a chicken,” the couple said Monday.

“It was just an amazing surprise,” Markle, 36, gushed in an interview with the BBC after their engagement was announced. “It was so sweet and natural and very romantic.”

The “Suits” star, who will wed Harry next spring, didn’t have to think hard about her answer.

“She didn’t even let me finish,” Harry said. “Then there were hugs and I had the ring in my finger and I was like can I give you the ring? She goes — oh yes the ring.”

Markle proudly showed off the diamond dazzler — which includes two stones from Princess Diana’s jewelry collection — when the couple posed for photos on the grounds of Kensington Palace on Monday.

Harry said he wanted to include two diamonds that belonged to his late mom “to make sure that she’s with us on this – on this crazy journey together.”

“Not being able to meet his mother, it’s so important to me to know that she’s a part of this with us,” Markle added.

Diana’s sparkling rocks flank a central diamond from Botswana, the African country where the lovebirds camped out for five days about a month after meeting through a mutual friend in July 2016.

“We were really by ourselves, which was crucial to me to make sure we had a chance to get to know each other,” Harry said.

The prince said Diana would have been “best friends” with his future bride.

“I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, so excited for me, but then, as I said, she would have probably been best friends – best friends with Meghan,” he said.

“You know, it is days like today I really miss having her around and miss being able to share the happy news. But, you know, with the ring and with everything else that’s going on, I’m sure she’s with us.”
