Why Vanessa Lachey doesn’t ‘speak up’ on ‘DWTS’

Vanessa Lachey is keeping quiet about the alleged drama surrounding her stint on “Dancing with the Stars.”

“I just know that when I’m on set he’s my coach and I’m the student,” she told Us Weekly, following reports of tension between her and partner Maks Chmerkovskiy. “I listen a lot more and I don’t speak up as much because this is a field I don’t know.”

Reports claimed the duo had been butting heads in rehearsals for the show. The professional dancer didn’t perform with Lachey, 36, on Monday night due to “personal issues” — which amplified speculation of the two not getting along — and he took to Twitter on Wednesday to clarify.

“As you are all aware, I had to leave the show last week to take care of some personal issues,” Chmerkovskiy, 37, wrote. “I take full responsibility for my absence…….. and want to apologize to my partner Vanessa. We are both looking forward to dancing for our fans next week!”

A spokesperson for the ABC show previously confirmed to Page Six that the two are in rehearsals and will be performing next week.

“He’s trained me and taught me so many amazing wonderful new things just like any trainer would or teacher would,” she said. “It’s been an amazing experience.”

Lachey’s husband, Nick, is also competing on the show and is partnered with Chmerkovskiy’s wife, Peta Murgatroyd.

A rep for Chmerkovskiy declined to comment, while a rep for Lachey did not immediately return a request for comment.
