Carson Daly finds mom’s ‘goodbye note’ 19 years after beating cancer

Carson Daly unearthed some meaningful belongings while searching through his mother’s possessions after her recent death.

Pattie Daly Caruso, who died from a heart attack at 73 a few weeks ago, battled — and beat — breast cancer in the ’90s. Only now did Daly and his sister discover that their mother thought she wasn’t going to survive.

“My sister & I just discovered this ‘goodbye’ letter Mom left in her desk drawer. It was written in the thick of her breast cancer battle. She clearly thought she might not make it,” he captioned the picture of the letter. “We never knew. This was 1998. She lived almost 20 years longer. She survived and thrived. Never give up.”

The emotional letter, which Daly shared during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, told her children to take care of themselves and each other and to teach their future children to celebrate life as “God’s greatest gift.”

The former “TRL” host also shared a picture of some of his mother’s “treasures.”

Daly returned to the “Today” show Wednesday morning.
