Courtroom sketch artist in Taylor Swift trial defends his work

The courtroom sketch artist who drew Taylor Swift during the singer’s groping trial is defending his much-maligned work — saying the songstress is simply too good-looking to be drawn perfectly.

“A person like Taylor Swift, who is very pretty — has perfectly proportioned dimensions on the face — is actually much harder [to sketch],” Jeff Kandyba, a Boulder, Colo., native and the artist in Swift’s sexual assault lawsuit against a local DJ, told Fox 21 Denver.

Swift’s fans ridiculed the sketches during the trial, CNN reported.

“How long before Taylor Swift sues this courtroom sketch artist?” Twitter user @dorseyshaw wondered.

Others joked that Katy Perry had penned the drawings out of spite, referencing the long-simmering squabble between the two singers.

Kandyba said he did a lot of practice sketches before the start of the trial because he was nervous about drawing the songstress.

“I’m always drawing people in my head and they always look way better in my head than they do on paper,” he said. “It’s hard. Some people are just much easier to draw than others.”

Kandyba has been sketching in Colorado courtrooms since the 1980s and has covered many of the state’s high-profile cases.

A jury found Monday that ex-radio DJ David Mueller did grope Swift during a pre-concert photo op in 2013.
