Artist Anicka Yi wins Hugo Boss Prize

Artist Anicka Yi won the Hugo Boss Prize at the Guggenheim Museum, which includes a solo show at the museum in April, plus $100,000.

Yi’s work involves odors. The Paris Review wrote last year that her “media are bacteria and smell,” and that a show at “The Kitchen” played with “amorphous, olfactory fear.”

At the ceremony were Zachary Quinto, Kate Bosworth and Toni Garrn, as well as art dealers Gavin Brown, Paula Cooper and Andrea Rosen, museum director Richard Armstrong and artists Danh Vo and Rirkrit Tiravanija. Nominees included Tania Bruguera, Mark Leckey, Ralph Lemon, Laura Owens and Wael Shawky.
