Rebecca Hall plays Christine Chubbuck — the depressed Florida newscaster who infamously shot herself on live TV in 1974 — in the new indie film “Christine.”
But off-screen, the actress and daughter of vaunted British theatre director Sir Peter Hall doesn’t watch cable news.
“I don’t actually have a television,” Hall said at a New York Q&A for the film this past week hosted by Alina Cho and Rosanna Scotto.
“I still do read newspapers, like old-fashioned people.”
She added she’d never heard of Chubbuck before she was offered the role, but “I got sent the script, and there was a cover letter with a five-line synopsis… It rocked me before I even read the script… It was frightening.”
The film debuted this year at Sundance.
