CANNES — Usher continued his celebration of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ victory in the NBA championship in Cannes.
The star, who took an ownership stake in the team in 2005, said he was still on a high and still washing off the stickiness from the rosé Champagne sprayed over the team after the big win.
Usher, who joined the team in their celebration on the floor of the Oracle Arena before jetting to Cannes Lions, said the Cavs’ comeback win was based on their “ability to come back from adversity. When looking in the eye of adversity, how would you respond?”
Speaking with Ryan Seacrest in a session hosted by iHeart Media on Tuesday, Usher said, “There was a possibility that we might have lost. But the fact was there were so many odds against us, there were so many doubters for LeBron James, so many doubters for Kyrie Irving, so many doubters for our entire organization — changing coaches mid-season.
“All of these very complicated tumultuous things that took place, those guys built a team — an alliance — and they were unbreakable, and in those moments, they figured it out and pulled it together.
“They had Cleveland pinned to lose at 3-1 … there’s never been an NBA team come back 3-1, especially against one of the greatest teams. Give it up to Golden State, but I think with Cleveland, their spirit just couldn’t be broken.”
