Surprise! Tyra Banks welcomes baby boy via surrogate

Tyra Banks took everyone by surprise on Wednesday by announcing the birth of her first child with longtime boyfriend Erik Asla.

“The best present we worked and prayed so hard for is finally here,” the former supermodel captioned an image of a baby’s hospital hat on Instagram. The couple named him York Banks Asla.

“He’s got my fingers and big eyes and his daddy’s Erik’s mouth and chin,” the 42-year-old said. “As we thank the angel of a woman that carried our miracle baby boy for us, we pray for everyone who struggles to reach this joyous milestone.”

Banks has spoken out about her fertility struggles in the past. In September 2015, the “America’s Next Top Model” creator announced she underwent IVF treatments and was unsuccessful. “It’s been really difficult,” she told People. “I’ve had some not-so-happy traumatic moments.”

Banks, who has covered the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition twice, plans to expand her family. “I don’t just want one child,” she shared. “I’d love a litter! Maybe they’ll be running the family business. I do want a legacy.”

Banks and Asla, 50, have been together for more than two years.

A request for comment from Banks’ rep was not immediately returned.
