Ryan Reynolds’ father passes away

James C. Reynolds, the father of actor Ryan Reynolds, has died after a 20-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 74.

The “Missisippi Grind” star, 39, announced his dad’s passing on Twitter on Wednesday by posting a photo of the two from Ryan’s childhood.

“RIP Pops. James C. Reynolds. 1941-2015,” he wrote, along with a call to fans to donate to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

E! News points to a local obituary that reports that James “passed away peacefully Oct. 25 in hospital in White Rock, B.C., at the age of 74 with family and friends at his side.”

The obituary also notes that James tried not to let his battle with Parkinson’s get in the way living his life:

“Despite health challenges that could have slowed him down, Jim was a strong and passionate man who lived life to the fullest. His spirit, stories and memories live on in his sons and grandkids.”

Ryan and wife Blake Lively’s 10-month-old daughter is named James.
