The red carpet was graced with Hollywood royalty Monday night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where the annual style gala drew dozens of celebrities to revel in Chinese fashion.
George Clooney dressed in a traditional Armani tux and his wife, Amal, wore a Maison Margiela Couture gown by John Galliano. Fans lined Fifth Avenue on the Upper East Side hoping to catch a glimpse of their favorite stars at fashion’s fanciest night out.
The guest list included A-list couples, such as Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, and Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka.
But anyone looking to update Twitter or Instagram had to do it before the gala began: Editor Anna Wintour, Vogue and the Met were cracking down on celebs taking photos and videos with their phones at Monday’s glamorous Costume Institute Gala.
Vogue is filming a documentary with Relativity Studios on this year’s Met Gala, called “China: Through the Looking Glass” and about the making of the Chinese fashion-themed exhibit at the ball.
Celebs started posting early, snapping shots of themselves getting ready for the big bash.
“The Lee’s On The Way To Our 1st MET BALL,” director Spike Lee said in an Instagram post, where he shared a picture of himself with his wife, Tonya. “Threads By Dolce & Gabbana,” he added.
And Emma Roberts posted to Instagram a photo from the back of a limousine, saying, “Doing my best not to wrinkle en route to #Metball.”
Organizers were hoping to avoid any afterparty incidents like the one last year involving Jay Z and his sister-in-law, Solange Knowles, who tried to attack him in a hotel elevator.
Security video of the close-quarters clash went viral.
