Renewed drama over 15 Central Park West book

Supporting free expression is OK in the abstract, but the residents of 15 Central Park West didn’t like it when Michael Gross wrote “House of Outrageous Fortune” about their limestone tower.

A couple of high-powered neighbors, Dan Loeb and Barry Rosenstein, even tried to stop a book party from being held in the building.

But that hasn’t stopped Loeb’s wife, Margaret Munzer Loeb, from co-chairing the PEN Literary Gala May 5 at the American Museum of Natural History, where the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo will receive the Freedom of Expression Courage Award.

Groused one author: “I guess it’s OK to threaten the free expression of a New York writer as long as you support ones who live an ocean away!”

Gross, whose book just came out in paperback, told me, “I’m glad she’s seen the error of her husband’s ways.”
