Jean-Georges says Vegas food scene is a sure bet

Jean-Georges Vongerichten says Las Vegas has become a culinary hub because people value a good meal more than a fancy hotel suite.

“The casinos realized in the last 10 years that they make as much money on food and beverage as the rooms,” he told us. “Seems that in Vegas no one is looking to spend on rooms, [but on] food they don’t care.”

Vongerichten, who owns Prime and Jean-Georges Steakhouse in Vegas, served a luncheon Wednesday at Nougatine here to kick off Bon Appétit magazine’s ninth annual Vegas Uncork’d event in April.

The famed chef, along with Gordon Ramsay, Julian Serrano, François Payard and Masa Takayama, will participate in cooking events and appearances.
