Kenny Loggins funds band’s new album on Kickstarter

Kenny Loggins — the king of 1980s soundtracks, with hits including “Footloose,” “Danger Zone” from “Top Gun” and “I’m Alright” from “Caddyshack” — has turned to Kickstarter to raise money for his latest album with a new country-pop band, Blue Sky Riders.

The group has raised $89,000 on Kickstarter and is asking for more dough to cover marketing costs.

“The bottom line is that there are no guarantees about success,” the singer told us. “If it wasn’t for the traditional major-label system, I certainly wouldn’t be here today. I’m grateful for those opportunities. [But] it’s great to know that musicians today have more ways to get to the same result.”

Donors will receive goodies ranging from T-shirts and a CD to a song personally written for them by the band. Anyone who pledges $25,000 gets a free concert at their house.

Also as a thank-you to fans, the band is looking for an opening act on its Web site, blueskyridersband.com, and is encouraging potential acts to upload music for consideration.

Loggins group will perform Monday on “Today.”
