Here’s a story I never thought I’d write

If John Malkovich wins a CFDA Award before an Oscar, I’m going to riot — but it’s looking more and more like a possibility now that the two-time Academy Award nominee has traded his scripts for scraps and launched a clothing line.

Called Technobohemian — named after a term he read in an Italian novel — the line attempts to cultivate a casual, old world aesthetic with button downs, tailored jackets and woven neckwear.

“I am inspired by the appearance of a bohemian of the new millennium,” says the actor, whose designs can be found stateside at Blue Tree in New York, the Webster Miami, Church in West Hollywood and Lawrence Covell in Denver. “I thought it was necessary to update the figure of the bohemian but not in the traditional way. It was necessary to make it cosmopolitan, present and fully engaged in the technological world we live in today.”

I don’t know about you, but John Malkovich as a designer is the weirdest second act I’ve seen since my buddy’s Mexican bachelor party. There are just some things you can’t unsee.

While I offer John nothing but the best on this new endeavor, I worry that he might face some adversity given the smattering of scary ass characters he’s played in the past. I mean, “In The Line of Fire” alone takes door-to-door sales off the table.
