Christina Aguilera is putting me through it ya’ll. Her new album is a mess, her promotional appearances haven’t been much cleaner and her performances have been very atypical X-tina. But last night it felt like 2001 all over again as the diva (in the good way) turned it out on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” leaving me utterly flummoxed.
Jarett: Ryan! Christina absolutely slayed it on Letterman last night! Watch this!
Ryan: OMG that was BRILL
Jarett: I can’t stop listening
Ryan: I NEVER thought I would get an IM from you saying that
Jarett: and i’m fairly certain this is the same song she performed on Idol
Ryan: and you hated it
Jarett: and I hated it.
Jarett: But this is beautiful
Ryan: it is
Ryan: Sia wrote it
Jarett: well, it’s gorgeous
Ryan: my life feels whole again
Jarett: I feel like I’m taking crazy pills with her this month though. Seriously so schizo
Ryan: She is prob just so overwhelmed by NOT being the platinum diva at the top that she’s all sorts of f***ed in the brain
Jarett: I could see herself getting psyched out, but it’s not like this is her first time at bat.
Ryan: I guess after all the stage spectacles, what she really needed was to pare down on a stage with only a few people and a microphone to be great
Jarett: It’s stunning.
Ryan: It is, but I have to ask — what is the deal with that microphone stand — it looks like a sex toy!
Jarett: Just in case the song didn’t go well, she had a backup plan
