The Rayees — a harmonious French duo whose MySpace is plastered with gorgeous songs like the simple track “Numbers” and the 60’s bass-line banger “Hurricane” — are my two new best friends.
I don’t know them, but I am pretty sure we would totally get along. They like Robyn. I like Robyn. So, yaknow, we’ve got that going for us.
Even though they describe their sound as “Thrash / Hawaiian / Happy Hardcore,” the surfacing of the cover of Robyn’s “Dancing on my Own” gives hints that they are anything but thrashy (or Hawaiian sounding, or hardcore). The Reyees bring a simple, layered coziness to the track, by adding flares of buttery bells and chimes that invoke a sense of tranquil simplicity.
