Andie’s Candies

That headline is a little apropo of nothing except for the fact that I like Andes Candies, you know the chocolate mint rectangles. I especially enjoy them fresh out of the freezer. In any case, Andie MacDowell was filming a new L’Oreal commercial in NYC and seeing the former Hollywood heavy hitter got me thinking about where her career went wrong.

Did Andie find the pressure of constantly maintaining all of that fabulous hair too great? I loved her in “Groundhog Day,” which is a better rom-com than “Four Weddings and a Funeral” in my opinion, although she also has the dubious honor of starring in the only movie I have ever walked out of: “Just the Ticket.”

However, Andie redeemed herself a few years later with an inspired supporting role in “Beauty Shop” — a movie that made everyone in it look good, except Kevin Bacon — and she also has “Six Wives of Henry Lefay” coming up, which sounds promising.

The movie is about a grieving daughter who has to arrange her father’s funeral, while putting up with all of his ex-wives. In addition to Andie, the movie stars a handful of my favorite actresses: Elisha Cuthbert, Kelli Garner, Lindsay Sloane and S. Epatha Merkerson, who never seems to get an on-screen role that’s as fun or vibrant as she is. “Black Snake Moan” came close, but who saw it? No one.

Anyway, here’s hoping that Andie’s career can undergo the type of second coming that made “Groundhog Day” so charming in the first place.
