DINNER WITH DALI

THE new latte-table book by photographer Christopher Makos, “Warhol/Makos in Context,” tells it warts and all. In 1978, when the Pope of Pop took Makos along to meet Salvador Dali at a fancy French restaurant, Makos was seated next to Gala, the brilliant but eccentric wife of the Spanish surrealist. He writes: “After about five minutes, and three or four of my tries at conversation, she turned to me, looked me right in the eye, and said very evenly, ‘Nothing you could say would interest me.’ I was presented with Mrs. Dali’s back for the remaining two hours and 55 minutes or so.”
