The French Rowing Federation, founded in 1890, embodies the rich history and evolution of rowing in France. With 46,000 members, over 120,000 practitioners and 425 clubs, it promotes the sport through competitions, development programmes and leisure activities. Rowing is a water sport that combines physical exercise, coordination and team spirit. Rooted in the Olympic tradition, rowing has been on the Olympic Programme since the first edition of the Games, in 1896, and it earned its place at the Paralympic Games in 2008.

French rowing has gone down in history, with a total of 35 Olympic medals and five Paralympic medals. The Olympic Torch Relay is an inspiring symbol that represents unity and the celebration of the Olympic values.

It symbolises the passing on of the sporting spirit from generation to generation.

The Olympic Games Paris 2024 will be a unique moment for French rowing. After 100 years, the wait is turning into a celebration of our Olympic and Paralympic history. The Torch Relay embodies unity and passion. The Relays in Verdun, Nogent-sur-Marne and Joinville- le-Pont will be historic moments, reflecting our commitment to the community. The Federation headquarters in Nogent-sur-Marne will be the focal point of our heritage and our future, symbolising the union of tradition and innovation. We will open our doors to the Olympic Flame with pride, paying tribute to past generations of rowers.

On 21 July 2024, the Olympic flame will become the symbol of an exceptional team Relay on the Marne, the birthplace of rowing and canoeing, carried between the headquarters of the French Rowing Federation in Nogent-sur-Marne and the century-old AMJ rowing club in Joinville-le-Pont. Jean-Christophe Rolland, Olympic champion and President of the International Rowing Federation, will be at the helm of this unique and emblematic course.

In a festive and popular atmosphere reminiscent of the guinguette (traditional French tavern) spirit, the Olympic flame will be guided by a team of 24 rowers towards Paris 2024.

The Olympic Flame is a powerful symbol of Olympism and the Olympic Games. Carrying this Flame, which represents peace and unity and heralds the arrival of the Olympic Games, is an immense honour, and I am very proud of this privilege. I am immensely proud on behalf of rowing and all the rowers who carry the values of Olympism.
Jean-Christophe RollandTeam Relay Captain
