'The Crown' Actress Olivia Colman Gives Tearful Emmy Acceptance Speech, Says Her Father Died 'During Covid'

Olivia Colman delivered a tearful acceptance speech at the Emmys on Sunday, September 19, and revealed that her father passed away.

The 47-year-old won Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown. Colman beat out costar Emma Corrin, who played Princess Diana, in season four.

"I'm going to be very quick because I'm very teary as I wish my dad was here to see this. I lost my daddy during COVID, and he would have loved all of this," the actress said.

"I’d have put money on that not happening," Colman said she was announced as the winner. "What a lovely end to the most extraordinary journey with this lovely family. I loved every second of it and I can’t wait to see what happens next."

Colman had not previously announced her father's passing and did not share his cause of death.

Earlier this year, the Broadchurch alum had told the Daily Mail's Weekend Magazine that her father, Keith, was "relatively frail."

This is Colman's first Emmy win. The actress also has an Oscar, a Bafta film award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, three Golden Globes and three Bafta TV awards.

The Crown had a successful night at the Emmys: The Netflix show won Outstanding Drama Series.

Josh O'Connor won Outstanding Drama Actor for his portrayal of Prince Charles. Gillian Anderson took home Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series for her role as former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Tobias Menzies took home Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series for his portrayal of the late Prince Philip.

Colman will be replaced by Imelda Staunton in the next season of The Crown. Elizabeth Debicki will be stepping into Corrin's role as the late Princess of Wales.
