On Oct. 11, 1991, University of Oklahoma law professor Anita Hill's testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee was televised across the nation. Hill testified then-Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas had sexually harassed her. Numerous TV screens in a store at Crossroads Mall show Hill as she spoke to the committee. Her testimony drew the attention of Scott Schuster, seated, and standing, from left, Paul Palzer, Lisa Cantrell and Glenn R. Peterson. Civil rights activist and educator Clara Luper stands beside the newly dedicated Black History Monument in 1992 in front of the Freedom Center, 2609 Martin Luther King Ave. The granite monument was erected as a tribute to local, state and national civil rights leaders, including Luper. Among the projects to be funded by MAPS 4 are renovation of the Freedom Center and construction of the Clara Luper Civil Rights Center.
