Interested in Exploring a Career in STEM Teaching?

The American Museum of Natural HistoryBarnard College Teaching Experiences for Undergraduates (TEU) program is a 7-week immersive summer experience in secondary science and mathematics education in New York City, funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York. Twelve undergraduate STEM majors will be selected to participate in the program, six for the Mathematics TEU based at Barnard College and six for the Science TEU program based at the American Museum of Natural History.

TEU participants take a course in either science or mathematics pedagogy and apply what they learn to teach a summer enrichment class to New York City public school students under the supervision of a master teacher-mentor.

TEU participants

  • earn a $3500 stipend
  • receive MetroCards to cover local travel
  • receive daily breakfast and lunch
  • have the option to earn CUNY college credit for the pedagogy course
  • receive funding to attend a national or regional conference on STEM education during the 2024–25 academic year

The TEU program is non-residential; participants will need to provide their own housing.

We seek applicants who have completed at least 9 credits hours in mathematics or science at a 2- or 4-year college, and for the science program are especially interested in applicants who have studied Earth science. Students from 2 and 4-year colleges and universities in the metropolitan New York area are especially encouraged to apply.
