Great to see this published! The integration of seismic data with other methods for improved aquifer mapping is a significant contribution. Congratulations to Sikelela Gomo and everyone involved. GLOBEClaritas™ is happy to have been a supporting partner.
I’m thrilled to share that our latest paper is now published in Near Surface Geophysics. Lead author is Sikelela Gomo - well done Sikelela. In this paper, we see geophysical methods being used in a novel and intergrated manner to map and understand the different aquifer zones in the vicinity of the mine, as well as infer their relation to water inflow in the mine pits. We collected seismic data using the landstreamer inside the mine pit and analysed for surface waves to delineate the acquirer compartments, and the results were integrated with other geophysical and borehole data to understand water migration pathways to the pits. The work is critical for open pit mine planning, development, production, and safety. I am pleased to share that our new article is now published in Geophysical Prospecting. The work is led by our Postdoctoral Researcher, Dr Moyagabo Kenneth Rapetsoa , and funded by DSI-NRF CIMERA. Here, we continue to demonstrate that novel design of integrated geophysical methods (seismics, magnetics, and electrical methods) is key in improving exploration, mine safety and production in difficult and challenging active open pit mines. We thank GLOBEClaritas™ for support with the processing software licences, DSI-NRF CIMERA for funding Kenneth’s Postdoc, SLB for academic Petrel licences, Wits Seismic Research Centre for data acquisition, and Wits Enterprise for project management!!
