We believe every Kiwi kid deserves the same opportunity for a happy, healthy childhood.

About us

Every day, 1 in 8 Kiwi kids go without the basics that most of us take for granted. This has a profound effect on their health, education and self-esteem. We believe that every child deserves the same opportunities to reach their full potential. Variety provides tailored, flexible support to disadvantaged children in New Zealand. We work alongside schools, community agencies, social workers and healthcare professionals to identify children in need. Thanks to our supporters, Variety provides disadvantaged children with basic essentials (such as warm bedding and school uniforms), one-off grants for additional needs (such as medical and mobility equipment) and access to extra-curricular activities (such as school camp or swimming lessons). With our support, they have access to the same opportunities as other kids, a happier, healthier childhood and the foundation for a better future. Variety is a registered charity with the New Zealand Charities Commission (CC24039).

Yesterday was a beautiful day for a spot of volunteering and we were lucky enough to have the brilliant team from 2degrees give us a hand! The squad of seven joined us at Wairau Intermediate to tackle everything from painting and sanding to water blasting and gardening, helping to get the grounds ship shape for when the students return from the holidays 💪   ‘Variety at Work’ is a great way for us to give back to the people in the community that volunteer their time to ensure our services are reached by those who need them most. Our School Champions do a wonderful job of engaging with children and families who are supported by our programmes – we couldn’t make the impact that we do without their work on the ground. It was a pleasure to be able to give back to the team at Wairau Intermediate who do so much for our tamariki and big thank you to 2degrees for making it all happen 💙

On 3 June, Variety launched an urgent Winter Appeal on behalf of the children living in poverty in Aotearoa New Zealand. With 1 in 10 Kiwi kids in our poorest communities lacking a bed of their own, New Zealand families living in material hardship need help now more than ever. We would like to acknowledge and thank our media partners who are the anchors to our appeals, their generosity and support of our work is incredibly appreciated. Without JCDecaux New Zealand TVNZ Warner Bros. Discovery ANZ and MediaWorks NZ we simply wouldn’t have the reach we do to support Kiwi kids. 📣❤️

We need your help; this is an urgent winter appeal. With the colder months fast approaching, and the cost-of-living crisis showing no signs of letting up, Kiwi families are being pushed to breaking point. For the families who we work alongside, breaking point means not being able to provide a bed, afford suitable clothing, sufficient heating or doctor’s appointments.   No child should have to shiver themselves to sleep make-believing a warm bed while at risk of serious and sometimes life-threatening health implications that can lead to hospitalisations, caused by poor sleeping conditions.   This can be avoided if only ALL Kiwi kids had a bed of their own to sleep in.   Please head to https://lnkd.in/gjGTd-v7 and donate today ❤️

In April of this year, the fantastic team at Soul Bar & Bistro in Auckland generously chose us as the charity partner for their much-anticipated fashion show event with long-time Variety supporter Trelise Cooper. They raised an incredible $2,440 by kindly donating $10 of every ticket sold. As the months grow colder, this crucial funding will help us to provide 55 children in our poorest communities with quality blankets to keep warm this winter. Community fundraising and events are a fun and engaging way to enable Kiwi kids in Aotearoa New Zealand to thrive. If you have an event coming up and are considering donating ticket or sales proceeds to a charity, the families that we work with would be incredibly grateful for your support.
