Narrative Muse is based in Aotearoa, New Zealand, with Māori as the indigenous people of this land. We feel incredibly proud to have attended the 2023 Pikihuia Awards presented and created by Māori Literature Trust | Te Waka Taki Kōrero which embraces indigenous narratives, actively moving us closer to decolonizing space and recentering community. 🎯 📚 It was a fantastic celebration, honoring writers crafting remarkable stories. One of the beautiful aspects of these awards lies in their fully anonymous assessment process. This year, the process allowed the full spectrum of voices to shine. It was so beautiful to feel the warmth and generosity of the room as both new and previously published authors took to the stage. This event takes place every two years and is a very special space for the celebration of Māori writing. 🙌 🌈 We highly recommend picking up your copy of this captivating collection of published works, Huia Short Stories 15, a testament to the power of storytelling in both te reo Māori and English. The competition was judged by Emma Espiner, Carol Hirschfeld, Maiki Sherman, Mike Ross, Hēmi Kelly and Robert Sullivan. It was a particularly tough selection process with hundreds of submissions. ✍️ 📖 Winners include: Aperahama Hurihanganui, Shelley Burne-Field, Zeb Tamihana Nicklin, Nadine Anne Hura, Jacob McGregor, Anthony Pita & essa may ranapiri 🏆 👏 📸 Pictured here are Brough Johnson (she/her), Narrative Muse Co-founder & Co-CEO, alongside Nagaraj Krishnan and Suse Reynolds who sit on our Board, sharing the joy of this amazing night. Rhonda Kite, ONZM - Te Aupouri, Ngati Kuri, Ngai Takoto, English (also on our Board), we missed you! #MāoriLiteratureTrust #MaoriVoices #MaoriWriting #Storytelling #NarrativeMuse #DecolonizeSpaces
