Fond of fondue? So are we. Consider this your guide to combining all the best things in life — cheese, chocolate, and wine, of course.
Fondue is one of my guilty pleasures, and not just because everything tastes better when dipped in delicious, velvety dark chocolate or creamy Swiss cheese (although that certainly is a selling point). But, what I really love about Fondue is that is not just a meal, but an affair.
Whether shared with friends or family, the curious act of taking turns dipping pieces of bread or berries into a shared pot is a truly wholesome, and comforting experience. To put it bluntly, fondue is fun — even for adults. The hands-on meal creates memories that will last a lifetime.
When it comes to making the perfect fondue, one must be equipped with the right materials, which means starting with a fondue set. Like many cooking instruments, there are plenty of options to consider. One may prefer a stainless steel option, like the Sur La Table Stainless Steel Set, while others will turn to an electric option like the Artestia Electric Fondue Pot, and some will splurge on their very own Cast Iron Set by Le Creuset.
There is truly a fondue set for everyone. Whether you’re looking to feed the whole family, indulge alone, or perhaps you’re gifting a fondue set to a lucky dinner party host. Read on for reviews of fondue sets I’ve tested out myself — so you can find the perfect fit.

Pros:
- Sturdy base holds burner securely and prevents tipping
- Dishwasher safe
- Includes color-coded fondue forks
- Handy slots to hold six forks upright
Cons:
- Open flame may be less ideal for young children
Size: 3 quarts
Forks: Six
Color: White
This fondue set from Sur La Table has earned the top spot on my list for a couple of reasons. It’s exceptionally practical. It took me just a couple of minutes to set everything up. The handles are on the larger side which makes everything much easier to maneuver. The metal material also wipes clean easily — which is a huge plus with all the inevitable drips and drizzles that come with fondue.
It’s also as pretty as they come. The gleaming stainless steel design looks beautiful alongside the white, ceramic insert. There are even carved-out spots where you can set your forks. When it comes to fondue, it doesn’t get much better than this.
Best style: Swissmar Heidi Ceramic Fondue Set
![a fondue set with a white bowl and black handle](https://cdn.statically.io/img/nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/02/s2.jpg?w=1024)
Pros:
- Heat-resistant fondue forks
- 8-hole burner
- safe in the oven, microwave, and cooktop
Cons:
- Gel fuel, sold separately, can be expensive
- A bit on the heavy side
Size: 2.8 quarts
Forks: Six
Color: White
Talk about stunning design. Of all the fondue pots that I have reviewed, this one certainly brings home the style award. The gorgeous, black-and-white mountain wonderland design brings a festive touch to your fondue experience. Of course, you also have that classic wrought iron rechaud and stainless steel forks to go alongside the hefty pot.
Keep in mind this traditional fondue set is a bit on the heavy side — probably because it’s been designed with the highest quality materials. And she isn’t just pretty. This set is very user-friendly. The interior is coated with a Teflon, anti-stick layer, which makes it much easier to wipe away any remnants of fondue. A quick soak in water and the pot looks brand-new again. While gel fuel can be a bit expensive, this pot can be placed in the center of the table without the mess of cords. Well worth the money, in our opinion.
Best splurge: Le Creuset Fondue Set
![A red fondue pot with wooden utensils in it.](https://cdn.statically.io/img/nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/02/le-creuset-copy.jpg?w=1024)
Pros:
- Great heat retention and distribution
- Includes four color-coded forks
- Compatible with any heat sources
- Dishwasher safe
- Extended handle for easy carrying
Cons:
- More expensive
- Smaller than some competitors
Size: 2.25 quarts
Forks: Four
Color: Red
My mother is a shameless Le Creuset collector, and this is easily her most coveted fondue set. Yes, it is more expensive (I look forward to the age I can afford my own). However, it is arguably, very much worth the splurge. The enameled cast iron provides even heat distribution and excellent heat retention, so your fondue stays at the ideal temperature all night long. I can attest to this myself.
Compared to some other brands I’ve tried, my mother’s Le Creuset set keeps the fondue at the perfect consistency throughout an entire dinner party. It also works across multiple heat sources: gas, electric, halogen, ceramic, induction, oven, or broiler. Having that versatility combined with durable, high-quality material, and the beautiful splash of color — it’s just so, perfectly, Le Creuset.
Best electric: Artestia Electric Fondue Pot Set
![Pot with utensils on it.](https://cdn.statically.io/img/nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/02/electric-copy-1.jpg?w=1024)
Pros:
- Electric (safer for those weary of flames)
- Dial for adjustable heat
- Larger bowl
- Includes eight color-coded forks
- Heat-resistant side handles for safe
Cons:
- Less of a “traditional” fondue set option — but still very sleek
Size: 2.6 quarts
Forks: Eight
Color: Silver, Silver/Brown
For those who are looking to serve a large party, I recommend the Artestia Electric Fondue Pot Set. This electric set is very straightforward; simply plug in the 35-inch electric wire and turn the dial to heat the fondue at your desired temperature.
No need to worry about running out of fuel, or constantly running back to check that the flame is still burning. Another great feature: I noticed that this pot really heats up quite quickly, so you can appease your guests in a matter of minutes. And the best part? The set is designed with heat-resistant handles and no flame — which could be the safest option for little ones joining in on the fun.
Best candle-lit: Boska Candlelight Twinkle Fondue Set
![A fondue pot with candles and forks.](https://cdn.statically.io/img/nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/02/boska-copy.jpg?w=1024)
Pros:
- Five candles are included and no fuel gel is required
- Dishwasher, microwave and gas oven-safe
- Beautiful modern design, wood accents
Cons:
- Takes a bit longer to warm
- Potentially, less even heat distribution
Size: 1.6 quarts
Forks: Four
Color: White
Consider it a date night must-have. Candle-lit fondue sets are a wonderful option for those looking for a twinkling table setting. I was very impressed with the chic design of this Boska Set. The rustic, oak accents bring out the smooth ceramic material of this fondue dish, and the candle setting makes for a charming, romantic look (without the messy cords or fuel gel).
Note that this set may not heat up the fondue quite as fast as an electric or fuel-powered option. I was, however, quite impressed with the fact that these five little candles provided the fondue with a steady temperature that led to the desirable gooey consistency once melted.
Best cast iron: Swissmar 9-Piece Lugano Fondue Set
![blue fondue set](https://cdn.statically.io/img/nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/02/swissamer-copy.jpg?w=1024)
Pros:
- Available in five colors
- Traditional wrought iron rechaud
- Suitable for all heat sources
- Includes six heat-resistant forks with wood handles
Cons:
- Smaller size
- Hand wash only
- Open flame less ideal for kids
Size: 2 quartz
Forks: Six
Color: Cherry red, deep blue, metallic black, matte white
I grew up alongside this beautiful fondue set and still have an etching of the traditional wrought iron rechaud in my memory. It’s not just a cooking device, but a fabulous centerpiece for your table. I’m not surprised that Swissmar is recognized as a global leader in the fondue category.
The brand does not leave any detail out of their designs — each set features six stainless steel heat-resistant forks with wood handles. You can choose between six stunning shades, including metallic black, cherry, and blue. The bottom line: If you’re looking for a fondue set why not buy one designed by the Swiss experts themselves? You won’t regret it.
Best small set: Omniware Ceramic Fondue Set
![A red pot with lid and two tongs next to a fondue pot.](https://cdn.statically.io/img/nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/02/wayfair-copy.jpg?w=1024)
Pros:
- Small, lightweight, and very portable
- Budget-friendly
- Includes four color-coded forks
- Durable material
Cons:
- No option to adjust the temperature
- Feeds fewer
Size: 0.75 quarts
Forks: Four
Color: White, red
For more intimate gatherings, I suggest you consider the Omniware Ceramic Fondue Set. I’ve always swayed towards cast iron over ceramic, but I was thoroughly impressed with how light and well-made this set from Wayfair is. The pot is on the smaller side, which is ideal for two to four people.
Keep in mind that this pot probably will not get quite as hot as some of the other sets. The base features a convenient little cubby to place a candle underneath. I was, however, quite impressed with the fact that the pot stayed warm from such a small source of heat, but that is the benefit of the ceramic quality. I’d recommend this to anyone just starting on their fondue journey.
Best for beginners: Swissmar Red Arolla Electric Fondue Set
![A red fondue pot with black handles.](https://cdn.statically.io/img/nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/02/s1-copy.jpg?w=1024)
Pros:
- Electric heating base
- Indicator light
- Non-stick splatter guard
- User-friendly for beginners
Cons:
- Less of the traditional design elements
- The power cord on the shorter side
Size: 2.1 quarts
Forks: Six
Color: Red
While we all love a classic fondue set, this electric option simplifies the preparation and setup. This one heats up quickly and no fuel gel is necessary — saving money and time. A few of my favorite features: are the simple heat control dial, indicator light, and convenient numbers fondue forks.
While I adore the performance and design of this set, I only wish that the power cord was a tad longer. I’d recommend using an extension cord if your table is not within a couple of feet of an outlet. Still, for busy households, electricity is probably the way to go.
Best for chocolate: Swissmar Sweetheart Chocolate Fondue Set
![A red mug with chocolate and fruit.](https://cdn.statically.io/img/nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/02/s3.jpg?w=1024)
Pros:
- Very portable, travel-friendly
- Easy to clean
- Dishwasher, microwave, and over-safe
- Budget-friendly
Cons:
- Best for two people
- Lower heat flame
Size: 9 ounces
Forks: Two
Color: Red
No need to share. Enjoy this fondue mug alone or with a friend. This lovely bright red ceramic piece can sit over a tea light candle on a low flame — so it may not heat up quite as fast as other sets, but for just one person it will do the trick. I adore the convenient fork hole in the handle, which allows you to hang your fork so it stays clean and easily accessible.
I suggest using it for chocolate alone, which seems to melt the easiest in a fondue mug. Or for dual-functioning, go ahead and use it for your morning cup of coffee.
How we tested
![A chocolate fondue with fruit on a plate.](https://cdn.statically.io/img/nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/02/surla.jpg?w=1024)
In order to provide a comprehensive review of the best fondue pots, I tested out multiple brands myself (my New Year’s health kick will have to wait a bit longer). Each set was evaluated on the following criteria: aesthetics, functionality, and durability.
Aesthetics: No fondue set is alike. I’ve tested a variety; including the more traditional cast iron pots with elaborate iron bases, as well as some sleeker, modern electric designs. Ultimately, every fondue fanatic has their own style when it comes to their kitchen setting. Fortunately, many of the sets I reviewed are available in multiple colors, so you can find one that fits your aesthetic.
Functionality: A fondue pot should be user-friendly. I looked for sets that offered wide handles, ideally heat-resistant ones. I’ve made note of sets that offer some exceptionally thoughtful designs — such as color-coded forks, slots to place the forks, and adjustable dials for complete control over the temperature. And most importantly, I evaluated the texture and consistency of the fondue to ensure that the fondue pots distributed heat evenly.
Durability: Whether the material was ceramic, stainless steel, or cast iron — I tested to make sure that the pots could withstand the amount of heat necessary to keep the cheese or chocolate melted. I also reviewed how easy these pots were to clean, and whether they truly were chip-resistant if they were advertised as dishwasher-safe.
