If the presidential election coverage has you feeling like it’s the end of days, you haven’t seen anything yet.

Damien promises hell on Earth – literally.

The highly anticipated drama from executive producer Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead, The Shield) is based on the iconic film The Omen about an American diplomat who adopts a young boy after the death of his own child. That boy, Damien, turns out to be the Antichrist, and despite his reticent demeanor, his evilness compels the people around him to commit horrible acts on his behalf.

As the horror escalates, attempts are made to kill Damien, though in the end he proves unstoppable.

Flash forward to 2016. Damien Thorn is a now 30-something war photographer living in New York City with no recollection of his past life as the Antichrist. But strange things are happening around him. Slowly, he is beginning to come to terms with his true identity.

With Mazzara at the helm, the 10-episode premiere season promises no shortage of shocking visuals and water-cooler fodder. Mazzara, for his part, has promised that Damien will push boundaries and likely cause a stir.

“We’re taking the Jesus story and turning it on its head,” he commented at least year’s Comic-Con, referring to the fact that Jesus supposedly died at 33 while Damien’s story starts in his mid-30s. “Which I’m sure will piss a lot of people off.”

And what exactly does a 30-something-year-old Antichrist roaming New York City mean for humanity? Put simply, the show will either end in the apocalypse or the salvation of the human race.

And you thought the stakes in the election were high.
