Learn how this Air Force veteran and his wife found their “forever” home

In honor of Veterans Day, we’re highlighting members of the military who have shared details of their service – along with their positive experiences purchasing homes with the assistance of Veterans United Home Loans.

Veterans United is dedicated to helping veterans and military families become homeowners. Since its founding in 2002, the company has closed over 500,000 VA loans, and become the #1 VA lender for homebuyers in the nation, according to Department of Veterans Affairs 2022 lender statistics.

Joseph Eckert, US Air Force

Musician Joseph Eckert spent 20½ years in the Air Force, traveling the world and performing with the US Air Force Band. “In addition to all of the community concerts we performed, one very special tour was a trip to Southwest Asia in late 2002 to perform holiday shows for those stationed overseas. We were able to spread some hometown joy to them while they were thousands of miles away from their families.”

Another huge highlight of Joseph’s military service, and his time in the US Air Force Band, was getting to “jam” on the saxophone with President Bill Clinton in the White House during a holiday event!

Joseph and his wife retired in Florida to be closer to family. While they already had several successful experiences buying homes in other states, the Florida home was the first time they worked with Veterans United.

“We were able to buy our last home outright, so I knew a down payment wouldn’t be an issue. However, the Florida market is a bit more pricey than where we were in Texas, so I know that if we needed a mortgage, I wanted to go VA.”

Veterans United helped Joseph and his wife understand what they could afford in the Florida market, which made looking for a home much easier. They were able to find a peaceful setting that they love, which they feel is a great place for their “forever” home now that they’re retired.

“Our loan officer was very helpful and the process was very straightforward,” Joseph shared. “For any other military members looking to buy a house: Don’t overlook Veterans United for your mortgage needs. They go the extra mile to make the experience as stress-free as possible.”
