We tried SKIMS for the first time and are obsessed with these pieces

If you’ve truly been Keeping Up With the Kardashians, you’ve probably seen a zillion references to SKIMS, a.k.a. Kim Kardashian West’s next-level brand for underwear, loungewear and shapewear.

With any celebrity-owned brand, it’s second nature to wonder if what you’re putting your money toward is actually worth it. Well, let’s cut right to the chase — SKIMS is absolutely worth every penny. Plus, all the hype you’ve heard about the brand holds true.

According to the brand, SKIMS “empowers women to get dressed with ease and confidence, providing them with tried and tested solutions that work. From technically constructed shapewear that enhances your curves to underwear that stretches to twice its size, we are consistently innovating on the past to advance our industry for the future.”

And ain’t that the case. We had the opportunity to try out the brand from Kardashian West for ourselves and couldn’t get over the incomparable comfort and plush feel all the pieces had straight out of their sustainable packaging.

Skims review

Some of SKIMS’ most popular styles include its Sculpting Bralette ($32), Fits Everybody T-Shirt Bra ($48) and Waist Trainer ($68), among several pieces we reviewed.

From tops and pants in the Cozy Collection to flattering bodysuits, tanks and panties, we tried some of the most popular pieces to produce our SKIMS review — a beginner’s guide to the brand highlighting some of the best pieces to start off with. You’ll want to live in these for the rest of winter.

Below, find our first impressions of SKIMS, why we love it, how each piece fits and other styles we recommend. And, hurry — these pieces sell out quicckkk.

The Cozy Collection

Victoria Giardina wearing the Cozy Knit Pant (XS) and Cozy Knit Wrap Top (XS), both in ‘Smoke.’

About the collection: A warm, knit line made from breathable and stretchy boucle yarn

Sizing: XXS/XS-4X/5X

How to style: Wear this cloud-like fabric at home with some cozy slippers and anywhere on the go with your favorite slip-on shoes

True to its name, The Cozy Collection is, no joke, the plushest ever. I live for cozy knits (let’s be real, it’s the only way to WFH) and as soon as I touched the Cozy Knit Pant and matching Cozy Knit Wrap Top, I mass-called all my friends on FaceTime to rave about them – and that was before I even tried them on.

All of the pieces worn in this review are in an XS, which fits perfectly for my measurements (32 bust and 25 waist). The pants are not just cozy but incredibly cozy, though the bottoms were a tad long on me. It was a simple fix when I rolled up the pants once, but having slightly more fabric at the hem worked out for me when I wanted to lounge on the couch or keep more of my ankles warm when sitting at my desk.

We all love a matching set — myself included — but the top was a bit too revealing for my taste. But, take this with a grain of salt; I don’t typically wear tops with a deep or plunging cut, so I felt more comfortable pinning the vertex of the top to style a head-to-toe seamless, comfy fit.

Both the Cozy Knit Pant and Cozy Knit Wrap Top deliver a subtly sexy look, which is on-brand for all of SKIMS pieces. But, if you’re like me and prefer a more conservative top, you can simply pin it for more coverage. Plus, it’s bra-optional which is an ultimate win.

Another score for both pieces in the Cozy Set, specifically — it’s not super compressing and, though consisting of a thick-knit fabric, it still makes my legs and booty look fire, which is all because the pants hug me at my natural waistline.

What’s great about the Cozy Collection, in general, is that it makes me feel at ease when I’m eating pizza with my friends for a girl’s night in, picking up a package from the UPS store to outdoor dining with my boyfriend.

And, it’s a great feeling to take the SKIMS pieces from my dresser drawer because I know I don’t have to choose between loungewear and shapewear — I get the cloud-like feel and the sexy energy (much like Kim K) simultaneously.

Not to mention, the blanket-wrapped feeling simply isn’t fair to my middle school sweats and other pieces of loungewear in my closet.

The Cotton Collection

Skims review
Victoria Giardina wearing the Cotton Rib Tank in ‘Heather Gray.’

About the collection: One of SKIMS’ most popular lines that was designed for lounging in comfort and style and made to be worn all day, every day. It’s an elevated basics line with a form-fitting yet super soft and comfortable fit

Sizing: XXS-4X

How to style: Wear the tank with a pair of joggers and sneakers for lounging, or the bodysuit with a pair of jeans and booties for a night on the town. The possibilities are endless

When I first took the Cotton Rib Tank out of the packaging, I automatically thought it was too small. But, it fit like a glove and it has become my favorite tank in my closet.

With a comfortable, sweatshirt-like feel and a flattering square-neck cut to accentuate your bust and shoulders, it’s the perfect piece either to wear with lounge shorts. And, unlike other tanks I own, it doesn’t ride up or come too cropped.

I paired the tank with a pair of jeans and some booties. Additionally, I paired them with the Cozy Knit Pants for some styling inspo. And, a bonus: the tank is super stretchy.

Victoria Giardina wearing the Cotton Rib Bodysuit in ‘Soot.’

The Cotton Rib Bodysuit has the same seamless fit as the tank and hugs my upper body in all the right places. Plus, it’s completely wearable and though it seems like a plain black bodysuit, it had a super sexy, wearable feel. Not to mention, the scoop neck is the cherry on top of the flattering sundae.

The Fits Everybody Collection

SKIMS review

About the collection: Bestselling underwear made of buttery soft, two-ply supportive stretch fabric that comes in six styles and nine dreamy neutrals

Sizing: XXS/XS-4X/5X

How to style: Wear this cloud-like fabric at home with some cozy slippers and anywhere on the go with your favorite slip-on shoes.

What I love about SKIMS — and this goes for all of its collections and individual pieces — is its extensive size range. They made the cut as one of our favorite shapewear bodysuit brands, all due to its look-amazing fit and inclusive size range of XXS to 5X.

Particularly, the Boy Short is soft and seamless. While you won’t be seeing any personal pics of them, I can attest they are the comfiest bottoms to wear under your cozy pants. And, if you detest underwear lines of any sort, you won’t have to worry about that with SKIMS.

It’s important to keep in mind that these Boy Shorts aren’t thick. If you like your panties with more fabric, these might not be for you, but I absolutely love them for slipping on underneath my bottoms for all-day wear that won’t ride up with movement.

Is SKIMS worth it?

SKIMS review

Coming from someone who believes you can never have too many basics in your wardrobe, I vote yes for SKIMS. Every piece I tried from SKIMS was buttery soft, breathable and made me feel confident throughout the day.

As a brand with a sexier feel, it’s not your typical loungewear at the department store clearance rack. It’s actually designed to look your best, pop off on Instagram and last you for years of around-the-house and off-to-brunch wear.

The brand truly created gorgeous matching sets, shapewear and loungewear to help you feel put together and capable of conquering your day.

Though a more luxe brand, many of its pieces are less than $100 and with a fit like SKIMS, it’s well worth the price. Plus, it’s the easiest way to look snatched and good without trying.
