Brooklinen review: The best sateen sheets that feel like a *dream*

You know that unmatched “relaxed” feeling. The feeling of crisp and cool hotel sheets that, on your last night’s stay, make you want to pack them away in your suitcase for everyday use.

That exact feeling is what I craved on some nights when my head was racing at night and I couldn’t fall asleep. Not to mention, my morning ritual of waking up at 6:00 a.m., completing a morning workout and journaling in the early hours of the day requires a good night’s rest.

And that’s why I wanted to try Brooklinen’s Luxe Core Sheet Set. The 480-thread count sounded divine after salt lamps, melatonin and no screens before bed still made me restless. After sleeping in these sheets for more than a year, I can attest: that they are magical.

Oh, and speaking of magical, the brand’s Waffle Robe and Waffle Towels to match are 💯.

As someone who never slept in firm, premium-grade sheets, I practically ran to the FedEx driver in my slippers when I saw the cardboard Brooklinen box in his hand.

Finally, those dreamy sheets — as seen all over Instagram — were in my possession and ready for me to catch some ZZZs.

While I reviewed the Luxe Core Sheet Set, I’m looking forward to trying the brand’s linen sheets for the warmer months for an even more breathable option.

Are Brooklinen sheets worth the price?

If you combine the number of times Kim Kardashian cries on “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” with how many times Gordon Ramsey yells at an aspiring Master Chef, it still wouldn’t compare to the number of times I’ve raved about Brooklinen. And, that’s sayin’ something.

Yes, yes, and more yes.

The Luxe Core Sheet Set looks clean and is so comfortable to sink into at night. I’ve had a few people lie down on my sheets and they didn’t want to get up. Seriously, I almost missed a dinner reservation.

The soft-serve ice cream-like texture is embedded on the fitted sheet, flat sheet and two pillowcases the bundle comes with. Plus, the 100% long-staple cotton and OEKO-TEX-certification for chemical safety make them above the rest.

While on the more expensive side, bedsheets are a wonderful investment. First off, you spend 75% of your life in your bed. Secondly, they’ll last you for years, whereas cheaper ones have this dust-feel cotton that becomes old and worn with a dozen or so washes.

The Pros

Oh, so many. I’ve never had a better sleep than with Brooklinen’s sheets. The satin-like border makes the sheet feel luxurious, especially if you spend minutes folding the flat sheet hotel-style.

Next, the aesthetics: they simply look quality. Especially with a white comforter — which is super in right now — your room will never look sharper. And, though my bedroom itself screams boho and leans toward minimal, you can’t deny they look great, even without the comforter on top (a win for people who detest making their bed in the morning).

Additionally, the sheets are so breathable. For hot and cool sleepers alike, I would say the Luxe Core Sheet Set is a great, light and airy option. I like to sleep with a million and one blankets and shorts, practically all year round, and Brooklinen delivers an exceptional, sound sleep. So much so, it’s a struggle to leave bed some mornings.

What’s more, washing the sheets couldn’t be easier. Simply toss them into your machine like normal and you’ll have even crisper sheets. My general rule of thumb is to rotate them in the laundry every week or two.

On that note, these sheets have not shrunk or lost their true shade after a year, which is super impressive. I’ve had sheets that have shrunk, stretched and pilled within two months — a major no-no that you won’t find with Brooklinen’s set.

The Cons

The obvious con is the price. Not everyone wants to devote $175 or so toward sheets. And, that’s exactly what I thought — I’d rather be spending my money on iced coffee and scrambled egg brunches or a quality lounge set.

But, I was wrong.

After sleeping in these sheets for weeks, I now understand both the price and the hype. However, it is still considered a minor downfall, considering these sheets aren’t in everyone’s budget. That said, they make wonderful holiday gifts.

Another noticeable downside is that the sheets aren’t lambskin soft right out of the box. Though I’m not super fussy, it may bother some people. I found the sheets comfortable and sleep-worthy out of the box, however.

Another piece worth mentioning is how careful you have to be with white sheets. If you’re prone to spilling drinks or leaving some mascara on at the end of the day, I recommend going with another color, like graphite or steel Oxford stripe.

Or, the *most* popular right now: the window pane style.

The bottom line

Order the sheets — that’s the bottom line.

On a more serious note, your evenings are sacred: resting after work, eating a wholesome dinner, devoting some time to skincare and prepping for a good night’s sleep. Brooklinen truly makes that possible. After all, there’s nothing more satisfying than a luxurious foundation for you to sleep on.
