Preakness Stakes 2022: The Preview

The 2022 Preakness Stakes promises plenty of excitement for horse racing fans everywhere. An American thoroughbred horse race, the Preakness Stakes 2022 will take place on Saturday, May 21 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.

The 2022 Preakness Stakes field will run from the starting gates at 6:45 p.m. ET, and is run at 1 3/16 miles or 9.5 furlongs, making it the shortest of the Triple Crown horse races.

There won’t be a Triple Crown winner in 2022 after Rich Strike, the upset Kentucky Derby winner at 80-1, withdrew from the 2022 Preakness Stakes lineup.

This year’s favorite is Epicenter, whose near-victory and second-place finish at the Kentucky Derby are proof of the potential of this particular horse.

Heading into Maryland, many punters expect another strong showing from the bay colt trained by one of the best trainers in the sport, Steve Asmussen.

While there are plenty of relatively new players in the world of sports betting and horse racing, DRF Bets has longevity and the credibility that comes with it on their side.

The Daily Racing Form — colloquially referred to as DRF — began in 1894 as a horse racing statistics company back in the late 1800’s. The Daily Racing Form is still in print today and is available everyday at every track around the country.

DRF isn’t just a newspaper, though, and launched a mobile app in 2016 to serve it’s vast audience.

How to choose a Preakness Stakes 2022 Betting Site

Sign-Up Offers and Bonuses

Finding a good sign-up bonus is always a perk when it comes to picking an online racebook or app, but each will suit different kinds of horse bettors.

If you’re a newcomer to horse racing betting, then there’s plenty of offers out there for you to take advantage of.

More seasoned punters may enjoy cashback-style promos where new customers get a certain percentage of their stake back in cash over a specified initial period.

Live streaming

We personally think live streaming is very important so you can watch your race live. The best online Preakness Stakes betting sites all will have live streams as standard so you can see the action live and on the move.

The 2022 Preakness Stakes will air live on NBC, but if you’re unable to find a TV, you’ll want to catch the action from your mobile or laptop.

Some operators and racebooks will offer streaming for not just the race, giving bettors access to pre-race interviews and expert analysis. Usually this would be accessible through a TV network, but some sports betting sites will offer these add ons free of charge.

Past Performance Data

One of the most important factors when placing bets on Horse Racing, is using form and previous results to help craft your wagers. The best Preakness Stakes betting sites will have form guides and past performance data available, but the depth of information varies for each site.

As this is the second race of the Triple Crown, there will be plenty of data out there from the Kentucky Derby, as well as other races that this year’s Preakness Stakes runners will have run in.

For example, TVG account holders can get access to a whole range of past performance programs, depending on how much you wish to stake. A basic package is available, right up to their full and watch and wager PPs.

TwinSpires also gives their customers Free Past Performances, which include insider picks. Of course, you must be an active customer and have placed a wager in order to claim this package, but they can really make your bets go a long way.

Experts Opinions

There is no shortage of opinions and angles when handicapping the Preakness Stakes. As we saw with the Kentucky Derby, Rich Strike winning at 80-1 was predicted by nobody. Despite this, there are experts for a reason. It is worth looking at who expert’s predicted for previous races, to see if they’re worth following for the Preakness Stakes.

There’s plenty of news sources, blogs and articles from various experts in the horse racing world. It’s often the case that many will fancy the same horse, so it’s good to read around to see if any horses are being fancied by multiple experts.
