The 17 best duvet covers for sleep and style in 2024, per our reviews

Quilts, shams, comforters and duvets — there are tons of bedding options to choose from, but if you’re in the market for a duvet and don’t know which one to buy, you’ve come to the right place.

Since good quality duvets (and sheets!) can be expensive, relying on expert recommendations and reviews can be a huge help in figuring out which is best for your needs. Nevertheless, the cost is worth it. After all, it’s estimated we spend nearly half our lives lying in bed, so it’s probably worth the investment.

“Although a high-quality duvet cover and insert set is an investment when purchasing, it will save you money, time and frustration over time,” Karin Sun, textile expert and founder of Crane & Canopy told the New York Post. “Since a duvet cover is easy to wash and dry with other bedding, you’re more likely to launder frequently enough for better hygiene and overall health.”

To help you create the perfect oasis in your bedroom, we spoke with a variety of textile experts, interior designers and other sleep experts to get the lowdown on the best duvet covers on the market.

Brands include Brooklinen, Parachute, Cozy Earth and more for those looking for crisp, luxurious duvets. If you just need a duvet insert, pillows or sheets, many of these retailers tend to sell the whole package!

Before you start shopping, Sun explained the differences in duvet materials below:

  • Sateen is a type of weave in cotton material and results in an incredibly soft, silky smooth feel. This is a great choice for most people, just make sure you opt for 100% cotton sateen. Ideal for most sleepers.
  • Percale is another type of cotton weave that is crisp, cool and luxurious, similar to a great classic white button-down shirt. 100% cotton percale is lightweight and only gets softer with time. It is one of the most durable materials for a duvet cover.
  • Linen is well known for its breathability, natural cooling effect, and absorbency – it can absorb up to 20% of its weight in moisture, making it a popular all-season fabric choice for warmer climates.
  • 100% Bamboo Rayon is a great for summer and hot sleepers, as it wicks moisture, reduces humidity and stretches, all while staying extremely soft.
  • Jersey knits are stretchy and soft, similar to a T-shirt. Unfortunately, many jersey sheets are cotton-synthetic blends which I’d avoid, but 100% cotton jersey is a better option.

Meet the Experts:

Best overall: Brooklinen Luxe Duvet Cover

Brooklinen Luxe Duvet Cover
Brooklinen Alpha Smoot

Pros:

  • Made with 480 thread count long-staple cotton
  • Available in 16 different colors, including two limited editions
  • OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified

Cons:

  • A wait for color and size restocks on the site

Brooklinen has understood the assignment. The Luxe Sateen Duvet Covers sit on the top of my list because they hit every mark. The fabric is buttery smooth and gets better with each wash (I’ve tested this out myself and can say it’s true.)

I’d consider the weight and heat level to sit right in the middle of the spectrum, which means these duvets work great for most sleepers. All of the materials used in Brooklinen bedding have been tested for harmful substances, so you know you’re only getting the safest sleep. There are a range of colors and patterns for every type of style. Be sure to take a look at the limited-edition shades while they last. These sheets are fairly priced and easily worth the investment.

Customer review: “I am seriously in love with our new duvet cover. It’s so soft and looks so cute. LOVE IT!”

Best textured: Rejuvenation Textured Striped Duvet & Shams

A bed with white pillows and a blanket
Rejuvenation

Pros:

  • Sophisticated design
  • Contains 50% organically grown cotton
  • No harmful chemical or synthetics

Cons:

  • Not quite as soft than some other brands

Material: Cotton and linen

I love all of Rejuvenation’s home decor, so I was particularly excited to get my hands on a duvet set from the brand. This striped and textured set does not disappoint. It’s stunning, sophisticated, and can dress up any room. I’ll add that the cream-colored style looks great in natural lighting, it has a nearly reflective quality.

The cotton and linen blend is not the softest duvet I have ever felt — however, I have noticed that it is exceptionally skin-friendly. I have oilier skin, and when I woke up in these sheets, I felt that there was far less moisture on my skin. They’re comfortable, edge on the cooler side, and the best part — all Rejuvenation’s bedding is made without harmful chemicals or synthetics.

Best bamboo: Cozy Earth Bamboo Duvet Cover

Stack of blankets on white background
Cozy Earth

Pros:

  • Material is very silky and smooth
  • Bottom tie closure and snap closures to eliminate shifting
  • Great cooling option

Cons:

  • More expensive
  • Better for warmer sleepers due to the cooling quality

Material: Bamboo or Linen

No questions here — cozy is right in the name. For spa-level comfort, head right to Cozy Earth. These 100% viscose duvet sheets feel like a slice of heaven. They’re silky soft, and have a temperature-regulating quality that keeps even the warmest sleepers cool and refreshed. I love that these covers feature interior snap closures to match comforter loops, which helps keep your bedding from clumping up.

Need to find something to fit your style? No worries there. Cozy Earth offers these comforters in a range of delightfully soothing shades — from sage, to stone, and driftwood. The glossy material does have a bit of shine to it, which makes for an elegant sleep environment.

Customer Review: “Soft, silky, beautiful color! Felt like sleeping in a soft cool cloud. Ordered a sheet set, silk pillowcase and more PJs after this.”

Best linen: Saatva Linen Duvet Cover Set

A stack of white bedding.
Sleep Number

Pros:

  • 100% Belgian linen
  • Free of harmful chemicals
  • Includes pillow shams
  • Hidden zipper closure

Cons:

  • Corner ties sold seperately
  • More expensive

Material: Linen

I was on the fence about linen until I tested out Saatva’s Linen Duvet Cover Set. This set is designed with with responsibly sourced, all-natural Belgian line, and you can tell that it’s heirloom quality. As soon as I felt this set, I knew it was going to last years. It’s exceptionally durable, there’s no stretch, and the natural slubs provide a thicker hand feel. My favorite part? It’s also said to age like fine wine, getting softer with every wash.

Looking for the whole package? You’re in luck. This set comes with matching shams, so you don’t need to worry about the hassle of coordinating. There are four color options to choose from — each of which features a 2-inch flanged edge detail for a more mature, expensive look.

Customer Review: “Expensive but a great product and worth it.”

Most durable: Rejuvenation Natural Hemp Duvet & Shams

A bed with pillows and a lamp
Rejuvenation

Pros:

  • Breathable hemp — lower environmental impact
  • The material gets softer with each wash
  • Resistant to pilling and odor-free
  • Many colorways

Cons:

  • Not quite as soft as some other brands

Material: Natural Hemp

This duvet set was advertised as “stronger than cotton,” and I can confidently confirm that is true. While I love the cozy feel of cotton, I think hemp deserves the title of most durable — it’s an ancient textile that has survived the test of time. Even after a wash, I couldn’t find the slightest evidence of piling.

A hemp duvet cover is also a great option for those who are trying to live more sustainability. Growing hemp requires less water than other fabrics, reducing the environmental impact. The material is also moisture-wicking and antimicrobial, which is ideal for sensitive skin. I also quickly noticed that this set had zero smell to it — which is another unique property of hemp. My only complaint is that there are only two options for color, and I wish there were more.

Best reversible: Sleep Number Rippled Duvet Cover Set

Blue and white pillows on a bed.
Sleep Number

Pros:

  • Double-sided
  • Directions for inserting the comforter included
  • Inner corner ties to prevent shifting and zip closure
  • Comes with pillow shams

Cons:

  • Weave pattern on the outside of the cover is slightly rough

Material: Cotton and polyester

We all know and love Sleep Number for its iconic mattresses, but the brand has also mastered the rest of the bedding space. The Rippled Duvet Cover Set is a great choice for those of us who don’t like making choices because it’s double-sided. The top side features a gorgeous woven pattern for a timeless look, and the inside is covered in smooth microfiber for gentle comfort.

I love how user-friendly this duvet cover is. If you’re confused about the duvet insert process, simply take a look at the logic labels which include simple steps for making your bed. Worries about shifting? Don’t be. The inner corner ties keep your comforter in place and the zip closure protects the comforter all the way around. Sleep Number also has a very lenient return policy — you can try the bedding for up to 100 nights and if you do not love it, return or exchange it.

Customer Review: “Just got the rippled duvet cover in rose and I couldn’t be happier. It is so beautiful and the color is perfect! The quality is high-end and I love the hidden zipper! It’s not heavy nor is it thin, it’s just right!!”

Best for style: Anthropologie Briony Duvet Cover

floral bedding on bed
Anthropologie

Pros:

  • Unique, beautiful floral print, easy to accent
  • Easy to wash
  • Very lightweight

Cons:

  • More expensive

Material: Cotton

“This cover is everything,” said Victoria Giardina, Commerce Journalist and Contest Strategist on the Shopping Team. “It’s gorgeous, has lasted for two years or so and doesn’t dirty easily. It’s also simple to toss into the washing machine and it’s one I always receive compliments on. It’s a splurge but 100% worth the cost.”

Giardina added that this set is lightweight and has a slight cooling quality, which is perfect for sleepers who edge on the warmer side. And, of course, this duvet lends itself to the best style category because it’s a masterpiece. Seriously, between those bright colors, floral shapes, and brushed-over canvas strokes, it looks like a work of art.

Best hypoallergenic: Bedsure Ultra Soft Hypoallergenic Microfiber Duvet Cover Set

A bed with blue bedding.
Bedsure

Pros:

  • Microfiber material that’s good for sensitive skin
  • Available in 11 colors
  • Zip closure

Cons:

  • No customer reviews

Material: Microfiber

If you’re hunting for an affordable duvet cover set that won’t irritate your skin, this one from Bedsure could be for you. It’s under $50, is available in sizes Twin to California King, and comes in an assortment of vibrant colors. It has eight corner ties, as well as a zipper corner, and has a lovely natural texture that will make you never want to leave your bed.

At this price point, I can not recommend a better duvet cover. If you’re looking for something with a modern, clean, puffy look that does not wrinkle easily, you’ve found it. Not to mention, it feels great on the skin. The hypoallergenic fabric is ideal for anyone with sensitive skin or those prone to breakouts.

Best year-round: Quince European Linen Duvet Cover

A bed with white blankets in a bedroom
Quince

Pros:

  • Made from 100% European flax
  • Available in 21 colors
  • High-quality feel

Cons:

  • Doesn’t include insert

Material: European Flax

This European Duvet Cover from Quince has incredible reviews, is under $300, and offers a luxurious feel. Made from European flax, it’s light enough if you run a little hot, but still has enough weight to keep you warm. Made without chemicals and armed with the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX certificate, it’s an awesome pick to elevate your bedroom style. It also comes with a 365-day free-return policy, and ships free!

In addition to the fact that this bedding is suitable for almost all temperatures and types of sleepers, I also love the size and how it looks sitting on a bed. It can be tricky to find a duvet cover that hangs over each side of the bed, without looking uneven on one side or the other. This one, however, seemed to be just the right size for my queen bed.

Customer review: “Love it! So elegant and looks beautiful on our new bed. Quality is fantastic and it washes like a dream. Highly recommend!”

Best affordable luxury: LUXOME Duvet Cover

An unmade bed with white pillows, sheets and duvet covered.
Luxome

Pros:

  • Available in cotton or viscose bamboo fabric
  • Both are great for hot sleepers
  • Soft, hotel-quality feel

Cons:

  • Only available in two colors

Material: Bamboo Viscose

No one sleeps exactly the same, which is why we love that the LUXOME’s Duvet Cover is available in two different types of fabrics. Like snoozing on something crisp and fresh? Go for the duvet in 37.5+ cotton. It’s made with a technology that makes it not only dreamily comfortable but thermal-regulating. For those who prefer something smooth and cool, bamboo viscose is the way to go. It’s silky to the touch, moisture-wicking and certified Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX. Both have two times the cover ties to prevent bunching and shifting and are available in five soothing colors.

My entire family goes to Luxome for all their sleep needs and after comparing these duvet covers to some more expensive competitors, I am still very impressed with the quality. These fell like hotel-level sheets, at just a fraction of the price. It’s worth mentioning that the bamboo fabric is also great for those with furry friends — I’ve noticed it almost repels dog fur which is an absolute game-changer.

Customer review: “These duvet covers are worth every penny and they look and feel very classy.”

Best from Amazon: Utopia Bedding Duvet Cover Set

A bed with a cream colored duvet cover.
Amazon

Pros:

  • Under $50
  • Available in 14 colors
  • Made with wrinkle-resistant microfiber

Cons:

  • The cover may be a little big for some comforters
  • Material is on the thinner side

Material: Microfiber

This duvet cover set has more than 17,000 ratings on Amazon! Maybe that’s because it’s crazy affordable while being cleverly designed. It’s wrinkle and stain-resistant and has a hidden zipper closure for security. The 3-piece set is also made from a breathable microfiber, making it lightweight enough to keep night sweats at bay but affordable enough to make your purse strings smile.

While this is not the most luxurious duvet cover you’ll find, it is still built with an attractive, breathable fabric that gets the job done. There are plenty of small features to appreciate, like the zip closure, which allows you to completely conceal the comforter, as well as the range of bright colors (which do not fade in the wash.

Customer review: “I love the color. Matches really well with my room. If you’re looking for something thicker, this isn’t it. I like the feel of it. It’s soft and breathable My comforter fit inside it perfectly. The best part about it is the zipper closure that makes changing it out a lot faster.”

Top rated: Amazon Basics Lightweight Microfiber 3-Piece Duvet Cover Set with Zipper Closure

A bed with white and black polka dots bedding in a bedroom.
Amazon

Pros:

  • Available in 25 different colors/patterns
  • Option for set to come with zipper closure or snap buttons
  • More than 50,000 ratings on Amazon

Cons:

  • Made from 100% polyester, so not a good choice for those looking to avoid synthetics

Material: Polyester

You’re probably already familiar with bedding from Amazon Basics. It’s the brand to know when you’re looking for something budget-friendly that’s also well-constructed. This specific duvet cover set has 54,000 plus ratings attached to its name, including 32,000 that are five-star.

I love that there’s an option of picking what type of closure the cover comes with, as well as the fact that the microfiber material is wrinkle-resistant. It won’t be for you if you loathe polyester. However, if that’s a non-issue, you’ll be impressed at the durability of the set. Perhaps, my favorite part about this set is the fact that it comes in plenty of vibrant colors and unique patterns — ideal for a range of styles, and options for both adults and children.

Customer review: “This product — OMG! Amazon did its thing! The color is perfect, not to mention the material and how comfortable it is. It makes you feel just at the right temperature; not too cold or hot, and with the AC kicking or rain failing…love it! The weight is okay, too.”

How we tested

To provide a comprehensive review of each duvet cover, I evaluated based on the following criteria: the overall quality, the type of fabric, the heat level, and the style.

Overall quality: Shoppers want to find a duvet cover that will last. I threw these duvet covers in the wash, and observed whether there was any piling, fading, or stretch. To evaluate the fit, I also put comforters in the duvet covers to see how well the comforters stayed in place.

Type of fabric: Each person has their own needs when it comes to bedding — some have sensitive skin and others prefer softer or more textured fabrics. I’ve tested out a variety of popular fabrics, from cotton, sateen, eucalyptus, hemp, bamboo, and more, to make note of some of the key differences

Heat level: Heat level is a personal preference, some people veer on the chillier side and crave a warmer comforter, while others easily overheat and enjoy something cooler. I’ve reviewed a variety of cooling and warming duvet covers, to find something for every type of sleeper.

Style: Duvet covers are the dressing of the bed. Every sleeper has their style — some opt for a clean, neutral look while others will go for more colorful, elaborate designs and patterns. I’ve reviewed a mixture of styles to help every shopper find the right fit.

Who makes the best quality duvet covers?

While ‘best’ is always a subjective thing, there are a variety of high-quality duvet covers that experts, as well as customers, love.

One brand that makes some of the best duvet covers is Brooklinen. It has picks made from organic cotton, sateen and linen, each in a variety of lovely styles, complete with corner ties for a secure fit. It also has amazing comforters, and you can even pick the fill they come in!

Another brand to shop is Parachute. It has a huge — and we mean huge — selection of duvet covers and duvet cover sets. It only uses premium, high-quality materials, such as 100% long-staple Egyptian cotton and linen, plus it uses sustainable practices in the manufacturing process, which is a huge bonus.

What are the best sheets and duvet covers for hot sleepers?

For hot sleepers, choosing the right duvet cover and sheets can promote a more comfortable sleep experience. Look for cooling materials and fibers, like silk, linen, or bamboo, which are breathable and light.

LUXOME, for example, has a gorgeous Luxury Sheet Set ($160), which is made from viscose bamboo. They’re naturally thermoregulating and moisture-wicking, and have a 400 thread count.

Buffy is another place to look for sheets and duvet covers if you’re a sweaty sleeper. The brand’s Eucalyptus Duvet Cover is a favorite of one of our experts, comes in variety of colors and sizes, and is cooling to the skin.

What is the most durable material for a duvet cover?

Although the construction of a duvet cover plays a large role in its durability, high-quality cotton is surprisingly resilient. Long-staple cotton, specifically, such as Egyptian cotton or Pima cotton, have stronger fibers that can last longer, saving you money in the grand scheme of things.

Cotton is also breathable and good for those with sensitive skin. Here are some of our favorite picks made from the material:
