Zach Wilson’s ex-girlfriend Abbey Gile gets engaged to his BYU roommate

Proposals seem to be all the rage, and in a peculiar turn of events, former Jets QB Zach Wilson’s ex-best friend and ex-girlfriend got engaged days after the quarterback popped the question to his girlfriend.

Dax Milne, a wide receiver for the Commanders, and Abbey Gile announced their engagement on Monday in a post on the receiver’s Instagram account after he popped the question on a beach.

The news comes just over a week after Wilson and model GF Nicolette Dellanno revealed that they had gotten engaged during a vacation in Italy.

The timing didn’t seem to escape some people’s thoughts considering the controversy surrounding Wilson, Milne and Gile.

Wilson and Gile had been high school sweethearts but split in 2022 before it came out in July that Gile had moved on to Milne, who had been a longtime friend of Wilson and was roommates and teammates with him while at BYU.

Some social media users called Gile a “homie hopper” when it was revealed that she was dating Milne and in response, she wrote on Instagram that Wilson “was sleeping with his mom’s best friend … that’s the real homie hopper.”

She deleted her Instagram account shortly after making the comment, and Milne blocked comments on his post about his new relationship.

While social media couldn’t help but have fun with the accusation, Wilson never commented on the accusation, and it eventually became just another odd chapter in his tenure with the Jets.

Milne was selected by the Commanders in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft and was signed to a four-year rookie contract in May of that year.

He appeared in 13 games and made nine receptions for 83 yards in his first year and had six catches for 37 yards and a touchdown in 2022.

Milne did not play in 2023 and dealt with a groin injury.

Wilson, the No. 2 pick in 2021, was traded by the Jets to the Broncos this offseason.
